Born in Birmingham in 1946, James Preston developed a keen interest in art which led him to study History of Art at the Derby College of Art. His great love of music spurred him on to embark upon a European Rock tour, where he sketched many of the fantastic places he visited. Still an avid band member, James plays with his jazz band at every opportunity. James is undoubtedly one of the UK’s most highly acclaimed landscape artists. With years of experience, James has a wealth of ideas; constantly inspired by the beauty of the countryside around him, he has a tremendous eye for capturing so perfectly scenes of rural Britain. Following the overwhelming success of James’ previous limited editions, collectors and appreciators of his work await every new publication with much enthusiasm. Working on location, James likes to produce a variety of preliminary sketches before finally capturing the wonderful sense of light and colour found in each landscape, giving each painting its quintessential sense of freedom. James has also directed his artistic talent towards the Christmas card market where, in 1996, his card design was the best seller of the season. All profits from this venture were donated to the Macmillan Cancer Care Appeal.
